National Minimum Wage increases 1st October 2010
I would just like to remind everyone that the National Minimum Wages (NMW) increases on 1st October 2010 as follows:
- From £5.80 to £5.93 per hour for workers aged 21 and over
- From £4.83 to £4.92 per hour for workers aged 18 — 20
- From £3.57 to £3.64 per hour for workers aged 16 — 17
Please note that the government has extended the adult minimum wage rate to 21 years old from 1^st October 2010, previously, the qualifying age for the adult rate of the NMW was 22.
Almost all workers who work in the UK are entitled to the NMW, it makes no difference if they’re full or part time, agency workers, temporary or casual, the NMW even applies to those on piece rate. There are some people that do not qualify for the NMW, such as Self employed people, apprentices and children of compulsory school age.
HMRC enforces the NMW and will issue penalties to employers that do not comply.
Please contact myself if you need any advice regarding the National Minimum Wage.
